Barre classes continue to be the rage these days. It seems as though specialized studios and classes are popping up everywhere! If you haven’t yet tried a barre class, you have probably at least heard the word.
There are several different methods of barre currently in the mainstream that share one main goal: to help you achieve strength and that oh-so-desired sculpted body by using light weights, minimal props, and small isolated movements.
Sound easy? These classes might be easy to follow with good instruction. They’re also likely to challenge you on strength levels you never thought possible.
At the Vail Vitality Center, our Barre Rhythm™ classes are a fusion of Pilates, yoga, weight training and ballet. The classes are set to fun, pumping music while we focus on teaching the basic ballet form. This teaches participants to work with proper alignment of the skeletal structure, creating the best environment to train the muscles. SCHEDULE
Pilates-based movements are added with light weights – five pounds and under – and props. We work medium and small ranges of motion during the burn, and we recover with larger ranges of motion and yoga-inspired stretches to create long, lean and toned muscles with minimal impact on the joints.
Each 55-minute class targets the major areas of the body most people are trying to change: the shoulders, biceps, triceps, upper and mid back, thighs, buttocks, and core. We also focus on balance, control, and coordination that are key for both the aging population and the avid outdoor enthusiast.
Barre Rhythm was designed with the outdoor enthusiast in mind. The ranges of motion and the angles of movement we target are meant to stand alone as your only strength workout, or as a compliment to other outdoor activities. With commitment, this class will make you stronger and more efficient in your outdoor sport, and assist in preventing injury.
For example, if you are a runner, hiker or cyclist, the more strength you have in your thigh muscles [on all sides of your leg] the more efficient your activity will become because more muscle fibers will be involved in the motions you are repeating.
Over time, you will build this strength in Barre Rhythm. The more efficient the muscles are, the less prone you are to injury because the strong muscles will help support and protect the joints, where most injuries occur.
All fitness levels are welcome, and no prior dance or Pilates experience is necessary. You don’t have to have coordination or rhythm to begin. You will be surprised how quickly these things improve as you progress. If you can hold a weight and stand at a ballet barre, you can take this class. This class is intense and physical advancement happens quickly.
If you are a beginner, you are more than welcome to attend. There are specific modifications offered for every part of the lesson that will benefit beginners or those with injuries, making class safe and easy to follow.
If you are an advanced Pilates student or seasoned in lifting, you will find this class a challenge, for sure. As the exercises change to maximize working all angles of the muscles, the format of the class stays the same.
Once you experience the first class, you’ll know what to expect. Your instructor will be prepared to help you set up if you are new to the lesson. Like Pilates and yoga, we work in bare feet or grip socks. Please bring these items yourself, as well as a bottle of water. We have plenty of mats, but you may bring your own if you have one.
Barre Rhythm is a results-driven lesson. With proper diet, you WILL see results!
After just 1 session, you will feel the work starting to take shape. After 10 sessions, you will feel and start to see a real change in your strength and tone. Imagine what you can do in 30 sessions or just 1 month!
