Boost your overall health by eating LESS sugar! Sugar is added to almost everything with a label these days. It has many names-high fructose corn syrup, cane sugar, barley malt syrup, anything that ends in “-ose” and many more! We know that sugar negatively impacts heart health by raising LDL (bad) cholesterol, lowering HDL (good) cholesterol and raising triglycerides (fat in our blood). Sugar also ages us, increases systemic inflammation and suppresses our immune system. Spend some time considering your sugar intake. If you need some motivation, there are some great documentaries about how sugar impacts our health and why it is ubiquitous in our food supply. Check out “That Sugar Film” on Amazon Prime or “Fed up” on Netflix. Both are awesome family viewing and will create awareness around why limiting sugar is key to optimal health!

Aspartame is the artificial sweetener found in almost any product labeled “diet” or “sugar-free” and has been associated with everything from migraines to brain tumors. Research supports the fact that artificial sweeteners stimulate appetite, cause cravings for refined carbohydrates and stimulate fat storage. You are surely better off without them! If you’d like something with a bit of pep, try water with lemon and/or organic apple cider vinegar (great for digestion and probiotic support), herbal teas or carbonated water.
